It has a very scented bouquet of red cherries, pomegranates and rose petals that rises from the glass. On the palate, it is well-balanced and balanced, with fresh acidity and a touch of white pepper. Focused and mineral aftertaste that lingers in the mouth for a long time.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with a classic bouillabaise with fennel, tomatoes and rouille sauce.
Vinification
Van Loggerenberg Wines was founded by Lukas and his wife Roxanne with their first vintage in 2016. The 2019 vintage is the fourth release for Lukas - a Rising Star, Young Gun and 2018 Young Winemaker of the Year by Tim Atkin. Lukas grew up in Rawsonville in the Breederivier Valley and was always surrounded by vineyards and wine. His wines are produced in the Devon Valley, and the grapes come from Stellenbosch, Paarl and Swartland. Each wine and its name has a specific story behind it, and its wines have become extremely popular. When I was growing up in Rawsonville as a teenager, I and a few friends hiked up the mountain to a swimming spot that we discovered. To reach this square/pool, we had to jump off a 5 m high cliff. When it was my turn to jump, hesitation crept in and that jump seemed impossible. When my boyfriend cheered me on and reminded me that I could do it, I took a deep breath and took that leap of faith. These few seconds in the air are indescribable! Scream GERONIMO from the tip of your lung. For a few seconds in the air, you feel like a bird hovering in the sky right now. This wine/label reminds us of the huge leap of faith we took when we embarked on this big endeavor, with friends who cheered us on, helped us and made us see that we could do it. The wine is made from 2 plots, one vineyard was planted in 1978 and the other in 1992. Both vineyards belong to a farm called Rustenhof, which is located in the Firgrove area of Stellenbosch. These vines are cultivated without irrigation. The soils consist of decomposed granite with underlying sandstone, which gives this wine its elegance and finesse. 60% of the grapes were spontaneously fermented as whole bundles, with a separation carried out daily. The wine was then subjected to malolactic fermentation in barrels and, after 9 months of storage in old French oak barrels, cut together and bottled immediately afterwards. Geronimo is bottled earlier than Lukas' other red wines in order to preserve the crisp fruitiness typical of Cinsaut. No enzymes or commercial yeast were used in the production of the wines.
