About the wine
If we can offer something special for Christmas 2021, it is this dominant white wine 2020 — Here After Here Chenin Blanc. The wine-growing regions of the South African winery Alheit extend across the landscapes where the experienced winemaker produces this white wine. Tasting note
This vintage has a lovely nose of apples and pears, sweet herbs and delicate citrus fruits. On the palate, it is juicy and fine, with a nice, spicy intensity that makes a large chenin a real drinking pleasure.
Culinary recommendation
Fantastic wine with a tuna tartare with pickled beetroot, beetroot purée and a camomile vinaigrette.
Vinification
The grapes for this vintage come from plots in Swartland near Malmesbury, the Upper Blaauw Cliffs and the Polkadraai Hills. They were harvested early in the morning, sorted in the vineyards and pressed as a whole bunch of grapes. The juice was slightly settled and fermentation took place spontaneously in old barrels of various sizes. The fermentation takes about 2 months and the wine was stored on the fine yeast for about 12 months and rested in the tank for a further 6 months without fining. Very simple, careful winemaking.
