Santiago Achaval and Manuel Ferrer founded their Achaval-Ferrer winery in Argentina's most important wine-growing region of Mendoza at the end of the 1990s. Within a very short period of time, the wines became the top quality in the country. Achaval-Ferrer is now part of the Tenute del Mondo group, as does Ornellaia. The estate's great treasure are vineyards with vines over a hundred years old, which are located at 700 — 1100 meters above sea level. The Finca Altamira vineyard is located in the Uco Valley at 1050 meters above sea level, just over an hour's drive south of the city of Mendoza. The conditions in this inhospitable part of the region are extremely challenging and the yield is correspondingly low. One bottle requires grapes from three vines! Expressive, concentrated, with a depth of flavor, aromatically intense. Mineral notes, the finest tannin structure and freshness complete the harmonious picture.
