About the wine
With experience and intuition, the winemaker from the Spanish winery Cruz de Alba masters this red wine in the picturesque and enchanting landscape of the Duero Valley (Castilla y Leon). With this present red wine 2012 — Cruz de Alba Riserva Ribera del Duero Tempranillo DO, the term taste takes on a new meaning. Tasting note
This reserva is stored in French barriques for 20 months. It smells intensely of dark fruits, toast and a hint of cream. Complex, fresh and elegant on the palate with beautifully rounded tannins and an aromatic, long-lasting finish.
Culinary recommendation
Goes perfectly with a Gruyère surchoix, deer pepper or charcuterie like salami.
Vinification
Cruz de Alba Riserva is only produced in limited quantities and every single bottle is numbered. The best grapes are used for its production, which are harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place in small vats, frequently stirring the pomace hat by hand. The ageing takes place in French oak barriques for 24 months. The “tercios” or third method is used: One third of the wine is stored in double-used barriques, a third in single-use barriques and the rest in new ones. After bottling, the wine spends an additional 12 months in the bottle
