About the wine
Enchanting and sunny landscapes of the coastal region give us these grapes, from which the winemaker from the South African winery De Trafford conjures up this white wine with refinement and experience. If we can offer something special for Easter 2019, it will be this dominant white wine 2017 Chenin Blanc. Flaschenpost team tip: Combine this Chenin Blanc with pretzel sticks or meatballs with tomato sauce.

Tasting note
On the nose, peach, nectarine and naartjie together with ginger and other spices as well as some earthiness, good fruit concentration and tangy acidity on the palate before a spicy, slightly bitter finish.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with sushi, seafood and rich fish dishes.
Vinification
The Chenin Blanc 2019 from De Trafford is something of a Stellenbosch mix with grapes from two blocks in Bottelary and two more from Helderberg, one on Keermont and the other from Post House. The grapes are lightly squeezed and have skin contact for about 2 hours before being gently pressed in a traditional basket press. The juice is allowed to settle for 2 days before being inoculated with natural yeasts. All the wine was fermented in 225l, 400l and some 700l barrels and matured for 10 months, stirring the yeast as needed to complete fermentation. 10% new French oak was used and the wine underwent partial malolactic fermentation. Light fining with bentonite - a natural clay. The Chenin Blanc was bottled unfiltered by hand.
