About the wine
With this strong red wine 2018 — Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, the term taste takes on a new meaning. Fertile and beautiful landscapes of the coastal region give us these grapes, from which the winemaker from the South African winery Schoone Gevel conjures up this red wine with refinement and experience. Culinary tip from Flaschenpost team: This Cabernet Sauvignon is ideal to be served with pizza with mushrooms or Gruyère burgers.
Tasting note
Open aromas of vibrant red fruits and spicy notes, supported by subtle oak touches of mocha and cinnamon. The wine has a well-defined round and elegant structure and lush red berries, which provide fascinating and juicy tannins. It shows the best of both varieties in the mix and ends in a soft, lingering aftertaste.
Culinary recommendation
Serve it with tasty meat dishes such as lamb, accompanied by a sweet mint sauce, as well as Cape Malay curries and bobotie. Slow-cooked braised beef is an ideal partner for this mix.
Vinification
A surprisingly sumptuous, wood-free medium bodied Chardonnay made in the New World style. The mixture was stored for a period of 6 - 8 months from high-quality French oak in oak wood. The French oak staves enhance the fruit aromas and give the wine structure. The grapes come from Swartland and Stellenbosch. Picked at 25 degrees balling, sorted, destemmed, crushed and fermented between 25 and 27°C. After fermentation, the wine was left in the tank on French oak staves to complete the malolactic process.
