About the wine
You take the Barolo grape variety and process it like an Amarone. That's roughly the recipe for Sforzato, the wine specialty from Valtellina. Everything is done by hand on the ancient terraces around Sondrio. The fruits from the rustic terrain meet modern winemaking art in the cellar of the Plozza wine house. Great “Alpine Amarone”!
Tasting note
Garnet red color. Rustic and dense start. With the scent of canned cherries, raisins and gingerbread spices. The palate is followed by dense wild berry and woody aromas, as well as fresh nuttiness. Despite its high alcohol content (15% by volume), it is tasty and down-to-earth. A concentrated, spicy nebbiolo with dense flesh.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with game, red meat, aged cheeses and grilled meats.
Vinification
The grapes for Sforzato are spread on wood grates and dried for 3 to 4 months. At the beginning of January, the grapes are pressed and fermented in steel tanks. The aging is then carried out in large wooden barrels.
