Amarone's “little brother”. Ripasso literally means “renewed passage.” In practice, this means that the winemaker marries young Valpolicella red wine with the pomace, i.e. the pressed skins and stems, of Amarone and ferments it a second time. The result of this method is the best of two worlds: an intensely fruity and spicy wine that remains lean and drinkable. On the nose, inviting aromas of dark ripe berries, black cherries, plus spicy components of licorice and coffee. Balanced, fine palate with good drinking flow and nice length.
