TLZ Rot N.9 2018 - Weingut Strohmeier

About the wine

After various stations at other wineries, Franz and his wife Christine founded the winery in 2001 and committed themselves to natural wine in 2003 without any ifs or buts - biodynamic viticulture. And that in western Styria, where avoiding chemicals is anything but easy due to the heavy rain. But after all, such a vineyard should not be an intensive care unit, where vines only survive hanging on drips and machines. No, such a vineyard should be a flourishing, diverse life, where everything interacts, and it makes no sense to distinguish between beneficial and pest. And that's exactly how the straw eggs keep it - and now they're even getting by with less and less copper. There is hardly any reason for sulfur here anyway, the wines are so good, so clean, they simply don't need it here. These are exceptional experts and flagship winemakers of natural wine: great wines full of freshness, clarity and mineral depth.

Tasting note
Inner compass - this dark blue berry fruit rises out of the glass so fresh, of course calmly, like a signpost unmistakably clear in the ethereal fresh, wooded environment. On the palate, this transparent berry fruit, which leads so unwavering, light and fresh, as clear as it points through this impassable, natural terrain, lots of fresh, ethereal, vegetable notes, plus foliage, forest, which seems impenetrable, as it gently and calmly leads through this complexity. Great, Burgundian transparent and fresh, and at the same time of such inner peace.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpost team recommends this TLZ Rot N.9 to accompany roast beef, grilled meats and Wiener Schnitzel.
Vinification
Very selective, late harvesting by hand. 3 weeks of mash fermentation, whole grape fermentation with vineyard's own yeasts in old 500l and 600l barrels, aging for 18 months in large wooden barrels. Unsulphurized, no fining or filtration.
