About the wine
The history of the winery dates back to the middle of the 19th century. In 1993, Mona Bastgen and her husband Armin Vogel took over the vineyards - privileged steep slate slopes near Bernkastel and Kesten - and founded their own winery. They cultivate just 5 ha, but with even more care, a lot of manual work and organic (certified). Nature is also given plenty of space in the cellar, and this is how the small Bastgen winery produces much-noticed Rieslings (and other things) far from the mainstream: transparent, precise, vibrating.
Bio
Tasting note
Young, witty, cheeky, challenging. Beguiling fresh and spicy, green and yellow fruit, slate. Extremely light-footed, vital and spicy on the palate, gripping with a smile, refreshing acidity, slate, looks playful and yet has a fat fist behind the ears. Only Riesling from the Moselle is so refreshing and ingenious.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpost team is recommended for mushrooms, Asian food and prawns.
Vinification
Selective reading by hand. Slow fermentation with the vineyard's own yeasts in steel tanks.
