Lagrein Riserva Abtei DOC 2021 - Klosterkellerei Muri/Gries

About the wine

Culture and wine — there are only a few places on earth where this combination is cultivated more intensively than here. In 1027, the Habsburgs founded the abbey, which was taken over by Benedictine monks from Muri in Switzerland in 1845. It was also they who first mentioned the name Lagreiner. The monastery's own vineyards are always cultivated using integrated and natural farming methods. Low crop load and careful, regulatory measures on plant growth and the environment are the basis for optimal harvest results and an intact environment.

Tasting note
Intense, dark garnet red. Smells complex and complex, ripe berry aromas with cherries and barberries, spicy notes of tobacco and leather, some licorice and eucalyptus, forest soil, dense and full. On the palate with convincing structure, finesse and character, softness and velvety combined with concentration and extract, well-integrated acid structure, grippy tannins, looks fresh and inviting, long-lasting probably one of the most authentic and successful interpretations of the autochthonous South Tyrolean Lagrein grape variety.
Culinary recommendation
This wine can be quietly in the foreground and challenge big dishes, a wine to enjoy and discover, which needs some time in the glass to fully develop...
Vinification
Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel at 30°C for 14 days, maceration and biological acid degradation (BSA) in stainless steel tanks, aging in small wooden barrels for at least 14 months
