Kestener Paulinshofberg Riesling Auslese 2022 - Bastgen/Vogel

About the wine

The history of the winery dates back to the middle of the 19th century. In 1993, Mona Bastgen and her husband Armin Vogel took over the privileged steep slate vineyards near Bernkastel and Kesten and founded their own winery. They cultivate just 5 ha, but they cultivate them with even more care, lots of manual work and organic (certified). Nature is also given plenty of space in the cellar, and this is how the small Bastgen winery produces highly acclaimed Rieslings (and others) far away from the mainstream: transparent, precise, vibrant.

Tasting note
A beautiful young man on his way to becoming a stable character. Shines with his incomparably sweet, bright and exotic fruits, including grapes, still completely inexperienced, naive, yet joyfully excited and immensely affirmative, all the strength, structure and substance, the tart, fresh slate notes already there, he doesn't seem to know it. On the palate, incredibly carefree and exuberant, dances and laughs, a wonderful interplay of exuberant sweetness and acidity, this delicious yellow and green fruit, again without the awareness of its own mineral power, depth and stimuli, fresh and tart is just another game. Wonderful selection with great potential from a very big Riesling year!
