About the wine
This distinctive Zweigelt 2012 — Eichkogel is, in the truest sense of the word, a hit right down to the last drop! Picturesque landscapes of Burgenland give us these grapes, from which the winemaker from the Austrian winery Anton Kollwentz conjures up this red wine with refinement and sensitivity. Flaschenpöstler tip: Combine this Zweigelt with roast onion or beef tartare.
Tasting note
Fully ripe berry fruit in the bouquet, backed by a spicy carpet of culinary herbs and cloves; on the palate, KräfigeTannine, powerful, juicy and long in the body, an enormous finale. You should decant this wine.
Culinary recommendation
It goes well with hearty meat dishes such as lamb, steaks and summer game. Maybe even only after eating it with mature cheese, but it can also be a young cream cheese.
Vinification
The Eichkogel is a blend of the traditional Grosshöfleiner varieties Blaufränkisch (70%) and Zweigelt (30%). In the Pannonian climate of Burgenland, the grapes ripen to the highest quality on the southern slopes of the Leitha Mountains. Aged in small oak barrels, the Eichkogel combines the spicy berry fruit of Blaufränkisch with the velvety of Zweigelt. Fully ripe, healthy grapes are picked selectively by hand. Blaufränkisch with around 30% Zweigelt. It is aged for 21 months in small French oak barrels. The rest without fining, but with slight filtration.
