The town of Calce is located in the northernmost Catalan part of the Roussillon region, characterized by the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. The wine-growing region around the town enjoys the highest quality reputation. Winemaker Thomas Teibert, who comes from Germany, has been managing his small Domaine de l'Horizon winery since 2005. He relies on regional varieties such as carignan, grenache, syrah for red and macabeu, grenache gris, grenache blanc and muscat petits grains for white and, above all, on biodynamic management of the vineyards. The majority of the vines are old, some of which are even over 100 years old and produce a very modest yield of 15 — 20hl/ha, but all the better quality. The red Domaine de l'Horizon is a blend of over 2/3 Carignan and 1/3 Grenache Noir. They grow on heavily calcareous soils, mixed with slate and marl. It is aged in barrels and barrels of 500 — 2000 liters. The gentle vinification results in wines with appetizing juiciness and digestibility. The pure wild berry fruit and the natural structure present their own world: vife, not heavy wines that pay homage to nature and its complexity and invite you to philosophize.
