Cote Rotie AC 2022 - Château Saint Cosme (Louis & Cherry Barruol)

About the wine

Château de Saint Cosme is the oldest winery in Gigondas. The Barruol family bought it in 1490 and Louis Barruol has been running it today for the 15th generation. The estate consists of 22 hectares of vineyards, which are on average 60 years old, which is an important basis for the quality of Saint Cosme. Organic farming has been cultivated on Saint Cosme since 1972, even though father Henry was still selling his Gigondas wines to retailers in barrels at the time. He was not interested in profit, but rather in maintaining and preserving the vineyards for the next generation. To date, no herbicides, artificial fertilizers, pesticides or synthetic products have been used.

Tasting note
Complex and deep nose characterized by the freshness, balance and typicity of the grape variety, which combines the naturalness of the fruit with clarity. Notes of smoked bacon, violets, graphite and roses. The feminine tannins and a certain lightness make this wine unmistakable.
Culinary recommendation
Von den Flaschenpöstlern empfohlen: Cote Rotie AC harmoniert ausgezeichnet mit Wild, Barbecue und geröstetem Gemüse.
Vinification
After an extremely selective harvest, the gentle vinification takes place in the ancient underground cellars driven into the rocks. Of course, no additives are added to the must and the finished wines are neither refined nor filtered so that all flavors are retained in the wine in all their complexity. The wine is aged for 15 months in new barrels (70%) and barrels of one vintage (30%).
