About the wine
St. Michael-Eppan is a cooperative of 350 winegrowers and is one of the largest and most successful wineries in South Tyrol. Despite its size, quality has been at the forefront since it was founded in 1907, which is why it is now also one of the best wine cooperatives in the world. The winery has been managed by the outstanding oenologist Hans Terzer since 1977.
James Suckling: 93/100
Tasting note
The amber-colored Passito delights with an extremely aromatic nose of apricots, apricot jam, litchi, rose water, honeydew melon and honey. Balanced on the palate with juicy acidity that harmonizes well with concentrated residual sweetness. The long aftertaste is supported by the intense aroma intensity and remains present on the palate even minutes later.
Vinification
Weather permitting, the grapes are left on the vine for a long time and harvested late. Otherwise, it is harvested and dried in the attic. The Gewürztraminer grapes are then mixed with the Riesling and Sauvignon grapes and dried in wooden boxes for a few weeks. They are then gently pressed and fermented and aged partly in steel partly in small wood.
