About the wine
The small family business of Alberto Vaona is located in Valgatara di Marano, in the heart of Valpolicella. The Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara grape varieties typical of this area grow on eight hectares. In the dry and well-ventilated rooms of the very functionally furnished winery, the grapes used to make Amarone and Ripasso are dried using the traditional method on the “Arele” (drying mats). The two Amarones from Vaona impress with their elegance and souplesse and the great art of being full-bodied but not heavy. The PEGRANDI shows a bit more depth and structure and needs to be compared with many more famous (and far more expensive!) Amarone not to be afraid of in any way. The Ripasso Pegrandi — an “Amarone light” — is extremely popular with both restaurants and private customers thanks to its fruit and taste, and is one of our absolute top sellers.
