About the wine
The winemaker from the Greek winery Moropoulos Winery grows this wine in the countryside of the Peloponnese. This provocative red wine 2021 — Moropoulos Merlot crowns every festive meal with elegance and finesse. Culinary tip from Flaschenpost team: This Merlot can be served very well with slightly spicy, red meat or poultry.
Tasting note
Light purple color with ruby red reflections. Expressive nose with aromas of cherries, currants and floral notes. Medium-bodied and juicy mouthfeel with blackberries, herbal and spicy notes such as juniper berries and bay leaf. The light menthol notes complement the crisp acidity and, together with the fruity balance and soft tannins, create a feeling of elegance.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with chicken and other light meats, as well as lightly seasoned dark meats. Goes well with flavorful stew, mushroom risotto or pasta and stuffed pork with dried fruit.
Vinification
Cold pre-fermentation for a few days to extract aromas and color. This is followed by classic red wine pressing in stainless steel tanks, during which the temperature is kept at a low level. Careful and brief pumping during fermentation ensures gentle extraction. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks and partly in barriques for at least 6 months before bottling.
