Tasting note
This dark ruby red Douro wine pleases the nose with fruity aromas of black cherries, plums and red berries paired with spicy notes of pipe tobacco, coffee, roasted oak, pepper and a touch of forest soil. On the palate, Little Mafalda impresses with a high fruit concentration of black cherry, blueberry and blackberry jam combined with aromas of roasted almonds, black olive and sweet spices. The tannins are soft and well integrated and the acidity makes you want more. An uncomplicated and fruity easy-drinking wine for every occasion.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with grill specialties, pizza, pasta, burgers and poultry.
Vinification
The grapes for Little Mafalda come from various plots around the old and now newly renovated Quinta Dona Mafalda. Little Mafalda uses grapes from ancient vines as well as grapes from young vines. After manual harvesting, the grapes are fermented spontaneously in stainless steel tanks. Depending on the vintage, approx. 1/3 of the wine is aged in French barriques for 6-9 months, the rest matures in steel tanks. For the Swiss market, Little Mafalda was bottled exclusively in magnums.
