About the wine
The Valtellina is the largest terraced mountain wine-growing region in Italy. The native variety grown is Nebbiolo, locally called Chiavennasca. The vine is grown at an altitude range between 350 and 900 m above sea level. Sandro Fay is very small and produces outstanding filigree, classic and complex wines that enthusiastically reflect the special altitude and the uniquely silty sandy terroir around the town of Valgella. The La Faya vineyard, newly planted in 1997, covers 1 hectare and is located in Carterìa, 550 m above sea level. The pedoclimatic peculiarities present in this area have led to experiments on how to combine different grape varieties - Merlot, Syrah - in a single wine.
