The Mas Martinet winery and the winemaker José Luis Pérez have evocative names that are inextricably linked to the remarkable rise of Priorat. Until a few decades ago, the Catalan enclave of Priorat was irrelevant in the wine world; the wines were alcoholic and concentrated, but nothing more. The methods and techniques of winemaking were outdated and important achievements had simply passed the wine-growing region by. José Luis Pérez has reforested the old, labor-intensive steep slopes according to ecological criteria with great dedication and passion, today they are certified organic and have also replaced chemistry with physics in the cellar. His daughter Sara consistently continues along the path he has chosen, with the international varieties such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon playing an ever smaller role and the distinctive character of Priorat now becoming even more apparent. The Clos Martinet and Martinet Bru wines have an elegance, finesse and freshness that was previously thought impossible in Priorat. The rave praise from critics is highly deserved.
