About the wine
1694 — French Huguenot Pierre Jourdan received an estate in the Franschhoek Valley, formerly known as Olifantshoek. He named it Cabrière, after his hometown in southern France. In modern 1982, it was Achim von Arnim (then still a cellar master at Boschendal) who bought Cabrière and began to plant Chardonnay as a first step to produce a local type of French sparkling wine, which is now known as Méthode Cap Classique. A few years later, Achim discovered another piece of land on the slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains, which is now known as Haute Cabrière and has a terroir similar to Burgundy in France. In 1994 - i.e. 300 years after Pierre Jourdan - the underground wine cellar was inaugurated. In 2013, Takuan von Arnim took over the helm from his father.
