14° Primitivo Gioia del Colle DOC 2020 - Cantine Polvanera

About the wine

Gioia del Colle is located in the west of the province of Bari, in the municipality of Acquaviva delle Fonti. The winery is located in an old farmhouse, which was purchased by Filippo Cassano in 2003. He set himself the goal of producing organically certified and high-quality wines thanks to the vineyards created in the middle and end of the 19th century and giving the reputation of autochthonous varieties a higher reputation. The vines, some of which are over 60 years old, which are grown as small trees in the Alberello system, are surrounded by cultivated land with dark-brown soil, from which the name Polvanera (black dust) is derived. In addition to the main Primitivo variety, Aglianico, Fiano Minutolo, Moscato, Falanghina and Aleatico are also grown and harvested by hand on the 5 hectares. Cassano's investments and work and passion have led to his Primitivo having DOC status here. The additional name 14 indicates the approximate alcohol content of the wine in the series of its Primitivo (14, 16 and 17!).

Tasting note
Youthful ruby red with purple reflections. The wide bouquet is extremely fruity and pure. Without wooden barrel aging, the focus is also on the clear fruit. A multi-faceted wine, full-bodied and warm, with a harmonious finish and aftertaste.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpost team is recommended for risotto, pasta and red meat.
Vinification
The grapes come primarily from younger vines with a yield of 8000 kg per hectare. Manual harvest, fermentation takes around 6-7 days. Before bottling, the young wine is aged in steel tanks for 9 months.
