The Wise One MO - Bleasdale Vineyards

About the wine

History “The Wise One” Richard Potts, better known as Uncle Dick was the youngest son of Bleasdale founder Frank Potts. This extraordinary man made his own way through life. He did not stay long with his education and left school at the age of 12. Uncle Dick hasn't worked a single day in his entire life. His source of income was his father's inheritance. Blessed with a razor-sharp mind, he constantly surprised those around him with unusual ideas and inventions. To counter the heat in Langhorn Creek, he filled his knee-high wellies with water and in the cooler months he slept on the winery's boiler, or warmed the mattress on it during the day. The journey home by bicycle from Strathalbyn was also memorable, it was a windy day and instead of kicking off, Uncle Dick opened the umbrella and let himself be “pulled” through the area. He loved music and his gramophone, and very rarely did he sing his favorite song himself with his unusually deep baritone: Drinking! Uncle Dick was a bookworm. He read all sorts of encyclopedias, magazines and was a crossword puzzle fanatic - the harder the better. His ability to solve the trickiest puzzles in minutes was also unforgotten. The Tawny Port “The Wise One” was dedicated to this extraordinary man.

Tasting note
Shiny, copper-red color, the bouquet reveals a great variety of aromas with notes of dried fruits, nuts, molasses and some tobacco, soft on the palate, dense with an elegant sweetness, raisin, dark chocolate and again nut aromas, long-lasting and aromatic finish. A mild and fully aromatic tawny that can absolutely compete with many Portuguese tawny.
