Riesling trocken Grosses Gewächs Abtsberg 2020 - Maximin Grünhaus

About the wine

Fertile and picturesque landscapes of the Moselle-Saar-Ruwer region give us these grapes, from which the winemaker from the German winery Maximin Grünhaus conjures up this white wine with refinement and experience. If we can offer something special for Christmas 2021, it's this snappy white wine 2019 — Riesling trocken Grosses Gewächs Abtsberg. Culinary tip from Flaschenpost team: This Riesling is excellent with Indian cuisine or duck.

Tasting note
The first documentary mentions of the Maximin Grünhaus winery date from February 966. Since 1882, the von Schubert family has been tending the vineyards wonderfully situated on a range of hills near the rivers of the Moselle and Ruwer. The wines belong to Germany's wine Olympus. They unmistakably represent their origins and originate exclusively from the Maximin Grünhaus monopoly sites Abtsberg, Herrenberg and Bruderberg. The 14-hectare Abtsberg is the winery's most renowned location. Its subsoil consists mainly of bluish Devonian slate. The round top rotates from southeast to southwest and reaches a slope of up to 75%! The continuous area of the Abtsberg ends to the west and forms a flowing transition to the Herrenberg. The soil here tends to be more shallow and skeletal than in Herrenberg, which is reflected in the distinctive minerality of the wines. The wines from this 14-hectare site are among the longest-lived in the world. The large plants are the top of the dry wines and the Abtsberg depicts the terroir and typicity with absolute precision. Characterized by salty minerality and sparseness, the fruit stands in the background. Everything is focused on elegance, balance and finesse. Like all really great wines in the world, they win immensely from long bottle storage.
Culinary recommendation
