About the wine
The story of Mount Eden Vineyards began with winemaker Martin Ray, who began planting vines on a ridge of hills in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1945. Today, this winery covers 16 hectares, which are mainly planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Mount Eden is said to have the longest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir tradition in North America. Since 1981, it has been managed by Jeffrey Patterson, who is responsible for the consistently high wine quality, which is even comparable with that of Monte Bello Ridge.
Wine Spectator: 91/100
Tasting note
Red berries, violets and forest soil on the nose. Complex and elegant on the palate. Medium-bodied Pinot Noir with lots of freshness, balance and soft tannins. It lasts a long time on red berries and slightly peppery and mineral notes.
Culinary recommendation
Von den Flaschenpöstlern empfohlen: Pinot Noir Estate Santa Cruz Mountains harmoniert perfekt mit rotem Fleisch, Lachs und Käse.
Vinification
Pinot Noir is the first variety to be harvested on Mount Eden. Using natural yeasts and 35% whole grapes, fermentation is carried out in small, open containers and lasts up to 14 days. The wine is aged for 12 months in 50% new and 50% one-year-old French Burgundy barrels. Bottling without filtration
