The brothers Luca and Matteo Sega have only been winemakers since 2006, since their grandfather was forced to give up growing grapes in the steep Valtellina mountains. Without further ado, they decided to take over vine care first as a part-time job, then fully and completely, after appropriate training and introduction from this very grandfather. However, the area acquired in this way was too small to successfully run its own business with a winery, etc. However, it soon became apparent that one neighbor after another was also thinking of giving up; the reasons were too steep, too expensive to maintain, and too low grape prices. This is also how Jazpémi with the almost hundred-year-old vines came into the possession of the Sega brothers, who gave their mini business the nickname of their grandfather: Barbacàn. A Valtellina Superiore Valgella must be at least two years old, including at least one year in wooden barrels, before it can be sold.
