About the wine
If we can offer something special for Christmas 2021, it is this distinctive red wine 2018 — Blaufränkisch. The winemaker from Austrian Weingut Familie Umathum is absolutely proficient in his craft. Elegance and finesse are the characteristics of this red wine, which originated in the picturesque landscape of Burgenland. Flaschenpöstler tip: Combine this Blaufränkisch with mushroom risotto or pasta with porcini mushrooms.
Tasting note
Blaufränkisch is THE Burgenland red wine variety par excellence. Characterful, fiery and robust. Ruby red color in the glass. The nose has the scent of green pepper with a touch of pomegranate and mint, delicate notes of graphite. Very balanced on the palate with notes of black currants, spicy and full-bodied with a gentle long finish.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with game, beef, stews, cheese.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place with the skins to leach out the red dyes and tannin. After about 3 weeks, the young wine is transferred to wooden barrels and the biological acid degradation is carried out. The wine is then aged in old oak barrels for two winters to achieve stability.
