About the wine
The small family business of Alberto Vaona is located in Valgatara di Marano, in the heart of Valpolicella. The Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara grape varieties typical of this area grow on eight hectares. In the dry and well-ventilated rooms of the very functionally furnished winery, the grapes used to produce Amarone and Ripasso are dried on the “arele” (dry mats) using the traditional method. The two Amarones from Vaona impress with their elegance and souplesse and the great art of being full-bodied but not heavy. The PEGRANDI shows even more depth and structure and needs to be compared with many more famous (and far more expensive!) Not to shy away from Amarone in any way. Thanks to its fruit and taste, Ripasso Pegrandi — an “Amarone light” — is extremely popular with restaurants and private customers alike and is one of our absolute top sellers.
