Gruner Veltliner Federspiel Terrassen 2022 - Domäne Wachau

About the wine

Since winery manager and Master of Wine Roman Horvath and winemaster Heinz Frischengruber have steered the fortunes of Domäne Wachau, the winery and its winemaker families have captured an unprecedented dynamism. Within a very short period of time, they became the big players on the Danube, not least because of a sophisticated vineyard program and meticulous quality work. The steepness and height of the terraces are paid tribute, and individual layers are processed separately. Manual harvesting and targeted selection are the basis for perfect grape material. The result is a unique range of different Veltliners and Rieslings, which have long since amazed the international wine world.

Domäne WachauWhite wine | 75cl128°-10°C100% Grüner Veltliner
Tasting note
Bright green-yellow in the glass. Distinctive scent on the nose with aromas of green apple and white pepper, some mango and delicate notes of melissa. Medium-weight on the palate with a refreshing acidity, harmonious and juicy with a fruity and spicy finish. A characteristic spring game from Grüner Veltliner, well-balanced and very typical.
Culinary recommendation
Recommended by Flaschenpöstlern: Goes perfectly with paella, aperitif and freshwater fish. Our recommendation: Enjoy this white wine at a slightly chilled 7°C.
Vinification
Federspiel wines have a maximum alcohol content of 12.5%, are picked by hand and must not be improved. The name Federspiel comes from falcon hunting, which was very popular in the Wachau region. The vines are cultivated in traditional high education and harvested by hand with an average yield of around 8,000 kg per hectare. The harvest was from the end of September to the beginning of October. A modern grape collection system enables the precise selection of absolutely healthy grape material. The pressing was carried out in pneumatic tank presses, followed by controlled fermentation and aging in stainless steel tanks. Subtle reductive handling guarantees a fresh, fruity wine with structure. Vegan certified.
