Tasting note
Medium dense garnet red with lightened rim, beautiful, intense and complex nose with Asian spices, tobacco and blackberries. Very full-bodied on the palate, with elegant acidity and fine, silky tannins, exceptional depth, intense and complex fruit with notes of coffee, spices and candied fruits, very balanced and elegant, dense and with an impressively long finish. A prime example of a Rioja with potential for further bottle ageing for years.
Culinary recommendation
Particularly recommended with not too spicy meat and fish dishes and with desserts with chocolate.
Vinification
Tempranillo was harvested first, followed 23 days later by Graciano from Montecillo. In this vintage, the grapes were optically selected for the first time, berry by berry, so that only the grapes that met the strictest quality requirements were selected for this wine. Alcoholic fermentation in tanks took 21 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. In January 2016, the best wines were selected to age in American oak barrels with an average age of four and a half years, produced by our own coopers. After four years in these barrels and traditional tapping — by hand and by candlelight — every six months, the final blend was bottled in February 2020.
